Personally, sugar was banned in my house growing up. As soon as I gained access to it, I binged on it, got fat, had hormonal and health issues including fertility struggles and later gestational diabetes. I was on and off sugar and it was a physiological and psychological roller coaster.
I chose nutrition as a career path to help heal myself. I was sure the latest science and cutting edge technology would bring me the solution. I earned my degree and medical status as a dietitian and worked tirelessly in a variety of community and corporate settings.
Though I adore science and read scientific journals like romance novels, experience has taught me that science is ever evolving and often contradicts itself (butter or margarine, i.e.). Science doesn’t offer us the one-size-fits-all answer. If it did, we’d all be healthy!
I teach you how to filter scientific information with the scientific method - testing and seeing how they work for you, a genetically and environmentally unique individual. This non-judgmental, curious application is the psychological match that makes the application successful.
Little by little, I learned to give myself permission to eat anything, including sugar, mindfully. Listening to my body taught me that sugar doesn’t feel good and it doesn’t taste as good as I remembered. I still eat sugar, but infrequently. It doesn’t satisfy or control me like it used to. Happy to report that I have effortlessly maintained my ideal body weight, my blood sugar is normal and I am thriving. Won’t you thrive too?
Professionally, I’ve walked hundreds of patients through this journey moving them from feeling like victims and failures to competent and confident moderators.
